Friends of Denis' Field

Welcome to the homepage of the Friends of Denis’ Field group!

In the summer of 2020, Calderdale Council formally recognised Denis’ Field as an Asset of Community Value under law.  This means that the Council recognises that Denis’ is used to further the social wellbeing and interests of the local community, and that this use should continue for at least the next five years.

In its report on the site, the Council recognises that local people value Denis’ as a space for sport, recreation and education related activities, and says that the field has the capacity to be developed to enhance these activities.

FODF has been established to provide a focus for the development of the site in this way.  We aim to improve the site for the public to enjoy, to develop the biodiversity of the site, encourage more people to use it, and work with the Council and other bodies to improve the site in line with its status as an Asset of Community Value.

Examples of things we might do are
  • installing more benches, picnic tables and paths
  • planting wild flowers, shrubs and trees
  • organising events
  • anything else to make this green space our space…at the heart of our community!

We now have an interim committee of five and have submitted a formal constitution document to Calderdale Council for verification. Soon we hope to formally launch the group and to ask people to sign up as group members. So watch this space!

If you have ideas or would like to get involved, please mail us for more information.
